I’m starting to really fall in love with Tokyo. Anytime I head downtown I’m always glad I went, but Tokyo abstractly can feel immense, unfathomable, unnavigable. Where do I start? Summer makes the city more approachable, more open. Instead of hurrying away people walk slower, talk more—in a million different languages—and fashion becomes even more inventive if you can believe it. What looked in winter like an icy, steely and untraversable mountain becomes a multifaceted curio cabinet of things to marvel over and admire. I’d also like to mention Tokyo Tower is taller and slimmer than the squat Tour Eiffel (take that). I’ve loved Houston, I’ve loved Cairo, I’ve loved New York. But I’m really falling for Tokyo, I realized on the observation deck at Tokyo Tower, a site known as a romantic date/proposal spot. Must be fate.
