Luke and Amber are the best possible Alaskan hosts. If we just decided, “hey, I know! Let’s take a trip to Alaska!” …
Take fishing at the Russian River for example. I do not have the right kind of fishing pole. I do not own waterproof waders and boots. I didn’t know where to get a fishing license. And I certainly don’t have a bear gun like Luke does, which he made sure to keep close at hand, what with the tasty little morsels the kids are and the GRIZZLY BEAR that had been shot in the park the night before (bear selfie!).
We had started the morning off with some omelettes and BLACK BEAR SAUSAGE to get a taste for salmon in our systems. After gawking at the bear skin and skull near the river, we (Luke) caught dinner, which we ate that night around the campfire. Wading knee deep in the river, we kicked dead and dying salmon out of the way as we tried to hook healthy fish that hadn’t spawned yet. We saw no live bears, thankfully.
