Isaac gets tuckered out after a couple hours, but he slept in my arms for a half hour or so while my shins fried. He was a really good sport. And a huge cutie. At the end of the day we stripped him down to rinse off and some ladies cooed at his cute bum. Sorry to moon you! No one seemed to mind.
No babies were harmed in the making of this photo. Said babies were not very pleased though. |
The water was cooler than I enjoy. Chris took Isaac out for a swim anyway. He was really really pleased…at first. Chris accidentally gave him a little dunk, which Isaac didn’t particularly like. Continued wave splashing sealed the deal: I want out!
A couple days later Mama, Daddy and I returned to the island and tested the waters of the Santa Rosa Sound. Much more baby-friendly. A huge hit. Isaac liked grabbing the sand and having it ooze out of his long fingers. He also liked swimming with Grandma and Pa, and laughed when they tried to poke the seagulls. We saw lots of little fish and a crusty old hermit crab. By coming on a weekday we secured our own pavilion and picnic table. Recommend.
Captain Goodbaby fell asleep in the car, so we explored some of the island neighborhoods, pursued a dolphin tip (but didn’t see any) and headed out to Fort Pickens National Seashore. We found the campground where we came for vacation when I was 12 and the area was awash with jellyfish. That trip we also rode out a tropical storm when evacuating the island was recommended and started reading and applying the New Testament book of James. This time, we found some driftwood, and someone complimented my parents on their baby Isaac. Think again, AARP crowd—that’s MY kid!!
Besides enjoying the gorgeous, unparalleled waters of the Gulf of Mexico, we had leisurely coffee chats every morning, grilled out on the patio (which my dad rated A+), sipped Mothers Day tea, pushed Isaac on the swings at Benny Russell Park, had lunch on the patio, gave Isaac important work cracking pecans, watched Downton Abbey, and enjoyed the patio. Thanks for coming, Mama and Daddy! See you again soon!
