I dream of wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling bookcases. With a sliding ladder. And an upper balcony with even more books, kind of like at the Sydney Library, or Moscow‘s Pushkin Cafe, or in Beauty and the Beast.
We have the next best thing: an entire wall of bookcases in the library/office. It’s hard to make a bookcase balanced, color coordinated, intuitively organized, interesting. Just as I was finishing up days of sorting, Mouse loaned me a paw: “Something is missing…here.” Can you find him?
Note: Girls Day dolls, middle case, fifth shelf: it’s bad luck to have these up after March 3. If we had a daughter, we’d have just doomed her marriage prospects. But there’s a music box that plays a pretty little song that Isaac likes, so it’s still there.
Also note: That ridiculous mini-samurai suit (previously seen on Pounce) is all Chris’ doing. It’s not seasonally appropriate until Children’s Day, when it’s a symbol of strength for boys. I must admit it looks cool on top of the bookcases, but if I were Japanese, which I’m not, I would make fun of us.
We are officially unpacked—I unloaded the last box last week! Still some sorting and putting away to do, but isn’t there always?
