Packing the car to move is so different from packing the car for a vacation. And we have an unusual schedule for the next seven to 12 months. So planning what to stuff in the car meant considering a lot of things:
1. What do I want us to wear?
2. How will we keep the kids occupied?
3. What do we carry by hand? (important documents, valuables, guns)
4. What didn’t the movers pack? (Assorted junky toys found under furniture, lightbulbs, nail polish, food, bath products, shampoo, spray paint)
5. What was in the fridge when we moved out? (10,099 cheese sticks, gum, Middle Eastern ginger pudding Chris brought back from Bahrain and plans to make you taste if we’re coming to your house)
6. What will the kids grow out of and into in the next nine months? (Everything)
7. The dang cat.
8. All the clothes in that last load of laundry should probably come too.
9. You would not believe how much room uniforms and shoe polishing kits take up.
All this and more was added to the car in waves, topped off with a tidal surge of crap at the end (if I don’t stuff this book about Hawaii in the car I won’t be able to read it until months after we get to Hawaii!).
Nashville was our opportunity to streamline the last-minute stuff-pertunities into suitcases or with mates. Consequently, we had the most stuffed luggage cart I have ever seen in my life.
The car felt less cramped afterwards tho.
Our Memphis hotel is actually in Mississippi! Eloise’s first time to be in this state. Tennessee was a first for both kids too!
