Surprise! I was running late this morning. As I dashed out the front door and hopped along the stepping stones by the side of the house I noticed a patch of newly bloomed orchids. Ooo la la! Naturally growing orchids! Well who’s going to enjoy them out here behind the wall? No one. But now everyone can enjoy them as they’ve become the inspiration for the East Asian Orchid Tea Party. I like to flip through expensive decorating magazines and congratulate myself when I can recreate a high-priced, classy set up for practically nothing. For example, this entire tea party set cost me less than $20 US: Silver-plate teapot and tray, $11, Savannah, Georgia; lidded Chinese teacups, $3, Japan; tea towel, $2.50, Florida; cobalt glass shot glass (used as a bud vase), $1, Mexico; orchids, free, home Japanese orchid garden. Mouse liked it.
