The Christmas tree lighting at Old Poway Train Park was so fun! … until it wasn’t! It was bustling when we arrived, and the kids loved cramming around the tables with other kids making Santa beards and beaded candy canes. Once we finished with that, they were enchanted by the quartet of Victorian-garbed carolers crooning from the light-draped gazebo. And the model trains were a huge hit! Santa arrived by train! Lights and noise and people and fun everywhere! …Seriously, everywhere.
Kids+crowds+dark+chaos=NOPE. As we inched through the crowd, carrying the kids and trying to stay together, it was impossible not to eavesdrop:
“This is the problem with San Diego! Too many people!”
“I didn’t know this would be so crowded!”
“This is too many people!”
With the general tide of the crowd conversation turned to remarking on the crowd itself, we decided to do our part to alleviate the problem and went to a Hawaiian restaurant for pina coladas, mai tais, burgers and fish tacos. Fleeing Poway for the islands—just practicing for making our March escape, I guess!
