“I don’t want to go to the beach! I want to play with Ally and Holden! I don’t want to get in a swimsuit! Waaaaaaah!”
They DID want to go to the beach, they had so much fun splashing with each other and Chris and me in the water and caking themselves in sand, and they are adorable in their mismatched swimsuits.
The jade green water off Kailua Beach is unrivaled in mesmerizing beauty. Eloise sat on the front of my boogie board and directed me around just like our first trip over here after moving into our house last summer, when orchids of all colors floated by on the swells. Isaac and Chris and I played catch, and the waves were not big enough to catch, but we tried.
School starts in two weeks, and Chris leaves (again) before that, but nobody thought about that. Instead the kids made sand balls and dug pits and Chris and I discussed our long term plan for furnishing our house and making it a month-to-month rental available to us for summer afternoons like this when Isaac and Eloise might head off to surf with the cousins and we can all stay at the beach aaaaaaaaaaall day long.
Everyone had so much fun we stayed through nap time. Then some jerk let his dog off the leash and it got all up in Eloise’s business. The guy sat there while she screamed and tried to run away and the dog kept getting in her face, probably playing, but screaming kid and open dog mouth in her face? Nope. So other than yelling at a stranger to get his dog on a leash and carrying a sobbing threenager home, it was the best day!
