Now that I am a Sophisticated 27 all I see is green. I mentioned a couple years ago that I associate my ages with colors. A watery aqua with silver and sailboats for 24 (when we lived in Florida), Chinese red with gold edges for 25 (coincidentally, I went to China for the first time that year), gold and yellow for 26 (happy travels and settled nicely in Japan), and matcha-leafy-Muppet-greens for 27. Twenty-eight is a plumy aubergine, the color I’ve always associated with my mom (don’t ask me…that’s a whole year away!). Camel for 29; orange for 30. When I was little, Luke was blue, Simon green, I was red and Hannie yellow, while my mom was that deep purple and my dad was a navy-ish-grey. Now green makes me sigh in relief. These leaves are my desktop background; I moved my laptop from the office upstairs down to the zenned out tatami room off the kitchen, where the only decor is an obi that matches the floor cushions and a couple of hand-painted scrolls depicting soaring green mountains. Today is Chris’ birthday (he’s turning mountainous, solid, rocky brown) and I’m missing him terribly. Happy Birthday Chris, where ever you are in the wide ocean! I miss celebrating our birthday week together! Maybe next year 🙂
