“I don’t want to go to preschool!” is the last thing Isaac said before bed and the first thing he said when he woke up. It was COSTUME DAY and the Halloween parade Friday morning. Isaac hates costumes. Last year he cried and cried at every mention of wearing a costume, and actually skipped out on the parade. Not again!
This time it was great. Eloise and I watched Isaac BOUNCE with excitement around the school on the trick or treat trail. Total 180 from before.
After he put on his flight suit and patches he looked in the mirror. “I think people are going to say ‘What’s that daddy doing at preschool?'” Sure enough, at drop off his teacher said, “Wait! Is this you?” And pointed to the newspaper clip of Chris and Eloise she’d hung on the bulletin board. Isaac was delighted. “No! That’s Dad and Eloise!”
“I want to carve pumpkins and bob for apples,” Issac has been saying on repeat. Curious George does these fun fall things in “Curious George goes to a Costume Party” and “Curious George Boofest.” I don’t know if that’s where Isaac got the idea or what but I was on board to delight my tot, even though I’d told Chris I wouldn’t bother to carve a Jack ‘O Lantern without him. That’s usually Chris’s job.
Eloise kept trying to climb onto the table and grab the knives, so she got put to bed after Boofest. Then Isaac and I carved our pumpkin (“I wanted you to carve it with teeth!” …..yeah that’s for Chris to do next year) and scored some apples—no hands!—from a pot. It’s harder than it looks! Isaac loved it so much we did it again with Henry and Sylvia the next night. Then we lit a candle in the pumpkin, turned out the lights, and cracked a bunch of glow sticks to make sure they were working!
Halloween is so fun with kids!
