Myoshinji Temple complex includes this Taizoin Temple rock garden and meditation room as well as Shunkoin Temple, where we stayed. I got a separate brocade, accordion-fold calligraphy book for Kyoto because my Tokyo book is almost full already. I filled a page with calligraphy from the rock garden and another from Myoshinji’s main temple. The only kanji I can read in each signature is the date, so that’s more or less how I keep track of which temple is which. I might do an entire post on those if anyone cares—they’re the most famous thing to collect from temples. And the coolest, if I say so myself. This pond was one of the prettiest Japanese gardens I’ve ever seen, and was visible from the open-air meditation room.

Ahhh…so relaxing…
does anyone else feel (perversely) like messing up that manicured sand?
