It’s hard for me to really get into the Coliseum. Just imagine! People and animals ripping each other apart—for people’s enjoyment! Gross, no thanks. So I don’t really have a lot to say about that part of our day. It’s architecturally cool, but…. I would have been fine just admiring it from Caffe Roma, where we had lunch.
The spot Julius Caesar was killed I agree with this tired daughter Isaac is reading to Eloise about gladiators
The Roman Forum and Palenytine Hill were cool archeological sites and were about as interesting as driving by the Capitol building on the National Mall, except we had to stay there for hours while Chris hopped around, eyes sparkling, taking photos of bricks and columns. He was fun to watch anyway. I had the uncomfortable personal epiphany that although I WANT to care about this stuff, I actually fine it extremely boring. Isaac made the mistake of asking Chris why Rome fell into decline and 20 minutes later Chris was super irritated when I interrupted their “conversation” (lecture) to discuss directions.
Later I confessed my new personal revelation of apathy. Chris stoically averted his eyes. “I’m just gonna pretend you didn’t say that. I didn’t hear anything!” he said. Oh well, we almost made it to 15 years.
