Every time I’m in Waikiki I think, “Hey, I should come here more often.” But when we’re just five minutes from Kailua Beach over on our side I just don’t see much need to leave Windward.
The kids had Tuesday off for Election Day and we needed to clean the house and finish unpacking, but instead we joined our friends on a trip to the Honolulu Zoo! The zoo is not the most amazing by any stretch, and holds some annoying memories of Eloise refusing to ride in the stroller when we first moved here and getting to the furthest point of the zoo and refusing to walk anymore, but with two sufficient walkers and plenty of water and lunch, we made it all the way through this time. Diamond Head looming over an elephant filling its trunk is pretty striking.
Then we—what else??—headed across the street to the beach! Waikiki stretched out to our right, and behind us to the left was this little Barefoot Beach Cafe we’ve been to a few times. There’s usually four-hour metered parking available across the street, and the food is not horrifically expensive. The Sunrise Smoothie set me back $7 and came with an orchid and a side of jealousy from the kids, who abandoned their crunchy shave ice (shudder) for my sweet treat. The menu is a surfboard covered in chalkboard paint, and pineapples are plentiful.
I like coming here. I like just sitting here, looking at the water and chatting with friends. We should come here more often.

Every post I read makes me want to go to Hawaii again! Or live there…and since that’s unlikely, causes me to want you to live there😉.
You could write the most amazing tourist guide, if Oahu ever had a shortage of those, or visitors. At least we should be making sure ALL the fam is reading these!!!
