Still doing moving things. We toured a preschool. We checked our PO Box. We went to Anchor Church, which started Life Chapel, our beloved Japanese church. We looked at more houses with our realtors after getting outbid. We attended open house after open house. We went to storytime at the base library. I went to my first wives club meeting (yay!! My favorite!). We are meeting Chris’ coworkers and getting to know their awesome spouses and kids!
I am ready to get into a house and stop being in transition. On base, off base—either would be great! There is a long wait list for base housing…? Maybe? And buying a house has so far been fruitless. So we are trying everything and seeing what happens.
We met up with our patron saints of Hawaii—the retired couple who showed me the Hawaii they loved when I was stranded here on a space available hop in 2010. They are directly responsible for my subsequent desire to live in Hawaii, so meeting up with them at Uahi Island Grill the night before they space a-ed home was a delight bordering on a religious experience. Ha!
We continue to try ALL THE HAWAIIAN THINGS, like Lanikai Juice and aloha shirts and sunscreen that sparkles.
We saw a wild piglet trotting along the side of the highway and we are almost used to seeing chickens everywhere. And yesterday, we saw our first rainbow since arriving two weeks ago! Hanging in the clouds over the Ko’olau Mountains, illuminated by the early morning sun as we dropped Chris off for work. It’s a sign! …that we are in Hawaii, I guess!
