Eloise has been riding her bike around with no wheels for a year or more, but always needed a boost to get going. The other day she was being super grumpy about riding her bike, even with help, so… I stopped helping… and she did it on her own! She was so delighted with herself!
Today we set out on our first family bike ride and of course the kids immediately started complaining. They didn’t want to wear their helmets. They didn’t want to go at all. They didn’t want to ride downhill. They didn’t want to go that direction. It was like the olympics of complaining—unfortunately THAT didn’t get delayed.
Isaac flipped off his bike for some reason and Eloise pretended to forget how to ride her bike and whining abounded, so Chris and I took them home and they lost Nintendo privileges.
After lunch I peaced out for my own bike adventure. It turns out there is a nice bike trail most of the way from our local metro station all the way to the city (or there will be once part of it reopens after quarantine). I made it to Cinquantenaire Park and rode past the lovely bulbs. A few frosty months ago Chris and I got coffee and stroller through the park shivering until the museum opened. That morning, it was after 9am but the sun was still low in the sky. Frost glittered on the grass.
Today sunlight lit up a rainbow of flower petals while they swayed in the warm air. Lots of people exercised at appropriate distances in the sunshine.
I’m looking forward to the return of good health and good attitudes, and more lovely days in this park!
